SUPPLEMENTAL HELICAL ANCHORSFOR BULKHEAD AND SEAWALL REPAIR

ALLEVIATE SEAWALL & BULKHEAD FAILURES QUICKLY AND AT A REASONABLE COST WITH HELICAL TIEBACK ANCHORS

A supplemental helical anchor system may be used as a tie-back if both the concrete seawall and wood seawall are in good condition. A secondary helical anchor, once professionally installed and maintained, may extend the life of your seawall/wood bulkhead approximately 10 to 15 years.

It’s prudent to repair a failing seawall sooner rather than later since the damage is guaranteed to become more severe over time. Substantial afternoon rains, excessive high tides, and tropical storms can escalate seawall complications from bad to worse quickly. In addition to creating a safety hazard, a damaged seawall may have a huge negative impact on your property should it fail. Many Southwest Florida waterfront homeowners have awakened to swimming pools hanging precariously in the balance due to an overnight seawall failure.

Area contractors usually recommend replacing a weakened wall with new seawall/bulkhead construction. This is primarily due to their lack of experience in helical anchor technology. Other marine contractors prefer to excavate behind the wall and then install a conventional concrete anchor. Regrettably, these approaches require heavy equipment and significant excavation. This disruptive work can destroy mature landscaping, take days, and cost thousands of dollars.

At Coastal Helical Solutions, our skilled workers are trained to repair all types seawalls using helical tiebacks or helical anchors. Helicals are achieving popularity because they are less disruptive and more cost effective than traditional demolition and excavation-based repairs.

The fantastic news about helical tieback repairs to seawalls is that the repair effort is completed primarily from the water. To install each tieback, a hole is cored through the seawall from the water side. Then a helical tieback anchor is inserted into the cavity and “rotated” into the soil behind the seawall with a hydraulic anchor drive. The Helical plates fused to the square shaft make the tieback perform like a gigantic screw.

We possess state of the art installation equipment and monitoring software. Our digital torque indicator informs the installer when the tieback is firmly anchored in the soil.

Coastal Helical Solutions tieback anchors are engineered so that a threaded rod can be attached to the helical extension shaft, then a H.D.G. pressure channel bears against the seawall. A large nut on the threads is tightened  and the seawall can then be gradually pulled back into alignment and stabilized against further deflection.

WHY WORK WITH COASTAL HELICAL SOLUTIONS TO REPAIR YOUR FAILING BULKHEADS & SEAWALL?
  • No spoils or open excavations
  • Elimination of concrete/grout cure time
  • Installation may be completed from land or water side
  • Swift to install and tensioned instantly
  • Cost efficient –reduces cost on labor, equipment and time
  • Extendable and removable – anchor can be retracted if obstruction is encountered
  • Helical Anchor may be installed underneath structures ( pools/houses)
  • Minimal impact on landscaping and negligible cleanup

Load capacities up to 100 tons are possible with geotechnical and engineers design. Minimum accessibility for our equipment is from 34″ to 6′ wide which makes helical piles an ideal solution in confined

Coastal Helical Solutions has experience in many foundation projects for helical piles which include; swimming pools, home additions, retaining walls, wood bulkheads, concrete seawalls, generator pads, underpinning existing foundation, pile support for pedestrian bridges, reinforcing existing foundations, and the list continues.

This environmentally friendly helical piling installation process provides a quick and clean installation process to maintain critical project schedules. A hydraulic gear motor mounted on a 12,000 to 30,000 pound excavator is used to screw the hot dip galvanized helical pile through the soil as torque is monitored.  Torque capacities are monitored throughout the installation procedure with a Digital Torque Indicator. A Hot Dipped Galvanized termination plate is then affixed on top of the pile and encased into the new concrete foundation. The pile can be loaded immediately.
